About Atomic

“Like rifling through your coolest friend’s record collection, except with more drinking options and more people to dance with…”

Atomic is Wellington’s long(est) running new wave, new romance & synth pop night. Begun in the dim dark past at the old Bodega on Willis Street, Atomic now calls the San Francisco Bath House on Cuba Street its home. It has consistently scratched the itch of those who have a genuine love of music, and a desperate need to dance. The music played covers punk and its beginnings through to new wave, post punk/indie, new romance, early synth pop, through to the heights of pure chart pop.

Not your run-of-the-mill ‘Retro-80s night’, Atomic is put together with a love for all of the music played, and a huge collection of vinyl.

Ta Atomic for Mixtape received at June 4 gig – full of forgotten pop gems with Pop Mex, Blams & Mockers real stand outs + Swingers a pop classic !! Alas no room though for live faves Gisborne based electro popsters Marching Orders signed to Flying Nun mid 80’s !! Oh well, the perfect compilation never really exists does it !!
Hey enjoyed the night – my 2nd Atomic. Would have been nice I guess to hear more Clash, Stranglers, Specials, Suburban Reptiles etc, but the dance floor ultimately is the main consideration – Simple Minds sounded great !!
If ya ever need a hand with anything in the future – manning the door, promotions etc – then give us a bell – only too pleased to help out.
    Thanx, Tony M

Beautiful night at Atomic last night, thanks! Got my ankle mashed by a Siouxie lookalike but it’s an occupational hazard I guess. Love your music xx

Thanks Kate, I had a blast too! Sorry about your ankle, but like you say… Get well soon

      • Bill says:

Cheers Peter, The Bored Games record got re-released last year, from memory, but yes, all great and deserving of much wider acclaim. That Spelling Mistakes track is an all time favourite of mine. And yes, Judas next time for sure 🙂

Hello! Is there a mailing list I can join to hear about when the next Atomic is on?

    • Bill says:

Hi Dianne, I used to run one but it kind of died. Probably best to follow the page on Facebook Here: https://www.facebook.com/nothingelseonNZ/ – if that doesn’t work for you let me know. I’ve just announced the next one which is on November 4 🙂 Otherwise I always keep the dates on this site updated – just on the right hand side. Cheers, Bill
